The Review: Avéne Eye Contour Cream

My eyes are my problem area, and for this reason I am always exhaustively trying out concealers and eye creams hoping to fix what I am not willing to admit is probably just a hereditary problem. This is probably the first eye cream I've picked up that wasn't targeted at dark circles, but I wanted to give it a shot anyway as it claims to be soothing and gentle on the eyes - which is exactly what a good eye cream should do.

My Favourite Lip Product Formulas

Lip product formulation is a deal breaker to me, regardless of how stunning a colour is. Unless it is perfect, I don't find myself reaching for it. I love things to be creamy and opaque and I have rounded up the brands that do it best. These are all products that I've loved since the very first application.

MAC Lipsticks "Amplified" Formula
This is not matte, but it is not glossy either. It's just a great in-between that is opaque and easy to wear regardless of the state of your lips. I'm not going to lie, most of MACs formulas are spot on, but I really love this one in particular and recommend you checking them out if you haven't!

Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipsticks
These are an incredible, moisturising and glossy formula which is definitely saying something as I usually am not a gloss fan. These lipsticks are incredibly opaque, which is what I love the very most about them. This is a range I would love to see extended as there are only a handful of shades that I would want to purchase.

Kate Moss for Rimmel Lipsticks
Rimmel really do lips well, evidently. This is another incredible formulation, but most of the collection leans more towards the creamy/matte side. This collection is also much broader in the colour department and has something for everyone. I recommend this formulation to people all the time!

Revlon Colourburst Matte Balms
These are incredible and I haven't heard a single bad review on them! They have a nice range, and I'm sure their glossier formula are just as lovely. The thing I love most about these is their minty smell, as I'm a freak when it comes to mint.

Topshop Lipsticks
I love Topshop largely for their range of on trend colours, but their formulation is usually spot on no matter what it may be. They are a great, affordable brand to try if you can get your hands on them, especially for unique shades that just aren' that common in the pharmacy.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet
This is another incredible formula that's major flaw is the shade range. I really am not a red person, no matter how much I wish I was, and would love to see some more neutral shades in the mix. These are super long wearing, although they are removed with eating, but for this reason they aren't the drying liquid lipsticks you might have tried in this past. These definitely can be applied on slightly chapped lips, which is definitely a rare quality in the liquid department.

Life Lately : Exams & The Beach

After a busy exam period, I am heading off to the beach for a week with some of my closest friends! We're just going to mess around and have some fun before uni starts back for the year and I couldn't be more excited. I've spent the past month or so pretty focused on studying for these exams and working on other things rather than spending time with my friends, so this will be refreshing.

Surviving the Exam Period

Unfortunately for most of us exams are unavoidable. For me currently, it is exam time and I am working my way through with the thought of a week at the beach to ease my pain. It really can feel like you're going crazy when staring at those books for too long, so I've compiled a list of things that keep me feeling level.

Why I Love Birkenstocks

Birkenstocks were a bandwagon I held off on. I bought a few pairs of sliders to ease my craving, some cheap and some just as expensive as the original, but after the $90 Windsor Smith pair that cut up my feet after wearing them out, I decided to just give in as Birkenstocks are notorious for being comfortable, and that's exactly what I was in search of.

The "Me Time" Tag

Me time is so important and it is honestly one of my favourite parts of the day. Whether it be soaking in the tub, reading a book or enjoying a cup of tea and some chocolate (or all three at once!) we need to take a little time out for us every day to stay sane!

What do you watch/read during me time?
During me time I love to read blogs, magazines and lighthearted books. They are just the most enjoyable and there is not much thinking to them! I watch Youtube videos or the Kardashians when I want to relax, as they are not intense, I can do other things while I'm watching and just chill out!

What do you wear during this time?
I like to wear pyjamas if I'm at home, but if I have to go out leggings and a comfy sweater are my favourite. I also love wearing my pug onesie!

What are your me time beauty products?
I love using the Sanctuary Spa Five Minute Thermal Detox Mask as it is quick and effective. I also love my mint body wash, something about it is so soothing and makes me feel relaxed!

Current favourite nail polish?
My Sportsgirl royal blue polish which I wrote about here. It's bright, fun and chic - a great colour when you're not sure what you want on your nails.

What do you eat/drink during me time?
I love to eat chocolate or biscuits during me time for treats, but I also love to eat Pho as a meal as it just warms my belly and makes me feel at peace with the world. When it comes to drinks, tea or coffee are my favourites for me time as they give me that same, soothing feeling Pho does, or any soup for that matter.

Current favourite candle?
I'm not a huge candle person due to being quite scent sensitive, but I love tea lights during me time. They create the perfect atmosphere for relaxation.

Do you ever have outdoor me time?
I have to admit, it's not my favourite me time, but going shopping or just taking a walk can be very therapeutic and good for the soul! It's one of those things that I enjoy while I'm doing it, but working myself up to do it is a whole different story.

Would you ever go see a movie alone?
I never have and the thought kind of scares me! But I think if I wanted to watch a film badly enough and there was really no one else who would go with me, I probably would.

Favourite online shop?
ASOS is so, so great for browsing because there is always something new to see. I love browsing Mecca Cosmetica for makeup as well, especially their new in section. I'm one of those people who adds twenty things to their cart and ends up buying nothing.

Anything else to add?
I think me time is an important thing to try and incorporate into every single day. Even if it's as simple as sitting down for ten minutes and enjoying your cup of tea, or reading for twenty minutes before bed. It is so great for our mental health and to just unwind and reflect, and it should be a priority for everyone!

Do you have me time every day?

Minimal Makeup

As much as I love makeup, applying a full face every day is not something I enjoy. Slapping on a few products without having to think too much about it is the way I like to go on a day to day basis, and because of this I like to work on areas that really make a difference to the face.

The Review: Maybelline Velvet Lip Pencils

I've been waiting for these babies to reach Australian shores since the moment I laid eyes on them, and they're finally here! I just about gasped when I saw the new addition to the Maybelline counter at my local pharmacy, and instantly started swatching away until I found two shades that I really thought my collection was lacking - I'm trying to avoid buying more nudey pinks, but it's inevitable.

The first thing I noticed about these was just how creamy and opaque they were with just a tiny swipe. It was almost unbelievable and I'd never come across a pencil format with a formula like this. I have only swatched the NARS velvet lip pencils, so I cannot confirm if they're an exact dupe, but I can completely understand the comparison nonetheless. There is definitely a noticeable scent as well, but to me it smells like pink donuts, so I'm a fan!

I picked up the colours 'Red Essential' and 'Pink so Chic', the  first a classic red and the second not so pink, but more a mauvey-berry shade which I kind of didn't need another of (oops). Applying them to the lips is a dream, especially with their format. They are chubby sticks, but the tips are perfect for getting a neat, crisp line.

As for longevity, it's as good as any creamy-matte. It lasts a good while, but you will definitely need a reapplication after food or drink. This is a small price to pay for a formula that looks matte, but is incredibly creamy, and I don't mind sacrificing it. I only have two major issues with these. The first, that the colour selection isn't the best and I would love to see some more wearable shades in there instead of so many brights. The second, is that I'm a little confused on how to sharpen these once they're blunt - recommendations?

Overall, I highly recommend these to anyone, but especially those who are scared of mattes and their drying qualities. These are creamy, opaque and just a dream to work with!

The Brow Game Changer

I am obsessive and fussy when it comes to brows so it's needless to say that I don't fall in love with brow products often. I've been a powder girl since day one, as the pencils I had tried had never stood out to me. Sticking to a pigmented, dark brown powder was working just fine - but I felt as though I could find better. When my usual powder ran out, I went hunting... And found Australis's 'Oh Hai Brow' palette.

This palette drew me in for a number of reasons. Firstly, it comes with two, perfect shades. They aren't too warm and aren't too grey either, which is my number one issue with brow products. These powders are buttery and pigmented, but not to the point where they look crazy when applied.

The second big thing for me with this palette is the wax and it instantly became a brow game changer. Sparse patches in my brows had always looked a little sad due to straight powder not adhering to the skin the way I wanted it to. Applying the wax first gives the powder something tacky to adhere to, and my brows have never looked more evenly filled.

I was also incredibly pleased to find out that the tiny, angle brush included is actually completely useable. This is so, so rare and I actually prefer the way this brush applies in comparison to my regular eyebrow brush. The little highlight is great as well, as it's right there with easy access.

I highly recommend this to anyone who can get their hands on it! What has been your eyebrow game changer?

Celeb Inspired: Kendall Jenner

Kendall is my ultimate style and makeup icon. She keeps things simple on the face, which I love, and her style is just perfection. I've put together a little roundup of products that remind me of Kendall and that I use to achieve her signature look.

Matte Definition
Although this is Kim's palette, Kim's Kardazzle really does work for Kendall as well. If Kendall wears shadow at all from day to day, it's a simple matte look with crease definition. Failing that, she will have subtle, natural shimmers, bronzes and golds. This palette is perfect for achieving either!

Nude Lips
Kendall often sports a nude lip, and Nottinghill Nude by Rimmel is my ultimate nude. It just suits my skintone well, which can be hard to find when you have fair skin. When recreating Kendall's look, pick a nude that suits you and you'll be good to go!

Cheekbones
Much like her sisters, Kendall often goes for a very glowing and contoured look. This AC on Tour palette by Australis is perfect to get those famous cheekbones or to just warm up your complexion. It also has all of your highlighting needs in one, from a matte setting powder to a shimmer perfect for highpoints.

Graphic Liner
Winged liner is such a polished yet edgy look, and when Kendall uses liner you can bet it's going to be winged. This liner creates a sharp, opaque line and is perfect for achieving that crisp, winged look the girls are famous for.

Long Lashes
This mascara creates that long, fluttery look that stirs envy in us all. It separates and lengthens, which is exactly what you're after.

Are you a fan of Kendall's look?

Hello February

I think reflection is such an important skill to develop, and it's something that every one should really master. We can learn so much from what we've experienced, and even if there is no clear lesson to absorb, just taking in the way things have panned out can provide us with knowledge we may not have even known we needed.
