Marc Jacobs' Daisy

Marc Jacobs' 'Daisy' was a scent that I had lusted after ever since it's release and the hype surrounding it, but alas, fragrances are something I struggle to buy for myself since they can be pricey and feel somewhat unnecessary when I already have a few others in the rotation. When I received this for Christmas I was over the moon and it instantly became my new signature scent. I have worn this almost every day since Christmas, so a good seven months now, and I've only used a little less than half the bottle.

This is a fragrance I don't think I can go without now that I have owned it once. The scent is so fun, yet there is a level of maturity to it at the same time. Some may argue that the scent is completely airy and girly, but in comparison to some of the other perfumes in my collection this does have a note of sophistication that the others are lacking. As the name suggests, it is quite a floral based perfume, but as someone who isn't a huge floral lover I can reassure you that it is no way that overpowering scent that often deters us sensitive-nosed people. I find myself often getting migraines when it comes to overbearing scents and this is by no means one of them as it is quite toned down.

If you have never had a chance to sniff this before, it is described on the Marc Jacobs' website as found here:

"Fresh and feminine, Daisy is a playful bright and alluring scent. Daisy captivates with the luscious freshness of wild strawberry, then blooms with the modern vintage edge of velvety violet petals and finishes with a luminous blend of gardenia and jasmine. The white accords of birch and cedarwood add a bit of intensity."

Do you wear the same perfume every day, and if so, what is it?

Tumblr Inspo #6

It's been a busy week full of back to school prep which is honestly the best part of going back to uni (stationary!). I've been spending time with friends, queuing some blog posts for when things get hectic and overall just enjoying the last days of the holidays. I officially went back today but only had one lecture to tackle, so it was a very easy way to start the second half of the year.

I've been having a lot of me time and getting back into things that I had kind of neglected the first half of the year. I was too comfortable in my music niche and honestly didn't listen to much of it. But I've been spending ages trawling through Spotify, which is a godsend, and building up fun playlists and spending time discovering a lot of new bands and catching up on what I've missed from my old favourites. I've also taken a lot of time to write, which is a major hobby of mine, and something I never really neglect completely, but I have been doing a lot more of it.

It's been amazing to catch up with a lot of friends who have opposite schedules to you making it impossible to hang out in the school year without meticulous planning and execution. I've found that the friends that have lasted since high school are those who I can pick up with right where we left of without there being any weirdness.

This has been a huge ramble, but I honestly find these posts so fun and calming to write. As always, there is a lot of the Kardashian and Jenner clan for you to feast your eyes upon, but they are killing it lately (but I say that every month!). I hope all of your months/weeks/days are going great. If you'd like to, please link me your Tumblrs - I'm always looking for new people to follow.

Note: I wrote this post a week or two back and forgot to publish it, that's why I'm talking about school as though I just started.

Silver Linings

Am I a gold or silver kind of girl? Silver, one hundred percent, but when it comes to incorporating it into my makeup routine I am always at a loss. I am a gold/bronze/anything neutral kind of girl in that perspective, but I feel like I'm missing out on so many looks when I exclude my silver-toned products from the exclusivity of my makeup bag.

Smokey eyes are something I could write a personal history on. Back when I first started going on nights out I would rely solely on two staple shadows, a silver and a matte black, for my eye looks. Now I steer clear from them and focus on deep browns. I can't believe I have gotten less bold with practice! This Maybelline palette my sister gifted me is full of stunning, pigmented shades packed full of sparkle and perfect for a night out - yet I haven't touched it for more than a swatch every now and then because I'm scared. I feel ridiculous even typing that sentence out.

There is something to chic about the idea of silver eyeliner to me and a myriad of different ways to incorporate it into my routine instantly spring into my head. Once again, I haven't been so daring! One way I am dying to try is to accent a classic cat eye with a small edging of silver - I cannot think of anything so stunning. Another is to line my bottom lash line to add a subtle pop. These are "baby steps" and things I should definitely force myself to try the next time I'm going out.

Most of my issue is the fact that when an opportunity to wear these colours arises I am in such a rush I don't have time to experiment, in case I have to start over, I just want a go-to look that I know suits me and I can complete in a flash.

Is there a colour you adore but are terrified to work with? A product, even? I need to know I'm not the only one scared of makeup.

My Take On The Birkenstock Trend

I have been loving the Birkenstock trend, much like everyone else in the blogging community! For me I had in mind something a little different, and to suit my personal style, a little edgier. I did some looking, had a few hiccups along the way but eventually found my dream shoe. These are Windsor Smith's 'Cara' sandal in the Stingray finish. I'm absolutely in love with everything about these, and while at first I wanted to order them in plain leather, I am so glad I decided to go out of my comfort zone and order something a little different.

They are super comfy and I honestly can't get over the caviar-like texture of the bands. I have been walking around the house in them and I can't wait to take them out on a proper debut. I've been thinking about getting a cheaper version in white, due to my fear of ruining all that is white within a day, and I think I've settled on these if I do decide to take the plunge!

Are you loving or hating this trend? I really want to know, I've heard so many different opinions.

A Winter's Day Indoors

It was a sunny turned miserable turned sunny again kind of day today and I spent it all indoors. Uni started back this week, so I spent some time organising and getting things together for my new set of classes. It was crazy cold so I opted for snuggling up in bed to get things done, which I know, I know, it's bad for productivity but I couldn't resist.

I settled down with my laptop and planned out my life for the next month. Looking at my computer and notebooks makes my screen name obvious. I've had a few questions, someone even asking if I live in New York, but alas I do not. It's one of those places that you are drawn to and long for without ever having been there. It's always been like that for me, I can't explain it. When I thought of my username I thought long and hard, and for some reason nueyork just kept coming back to me. It's short, sharp and I love the twist on the spelling.

Earlier in the week I was feeling down and cheered myself up with an online splurge which arrived in the mail today - I'm sure you can identify what! You are definitely going to hear more on these in the very near future. I've spent a lot of time lately thinking about my content and I realised that I don't enjoy writing flat out reviews (unless it's a product I'm super excited about) so why am I writing so many of them? I've been jotting down ideas non-stop for posts that aren't review oriented, so hopefully this is the start of me only posting things I'm over the moon about.

Thinking about content has got me curious - what are your favourite kinds of posts to read? Mine are definitely lifestyle and anything that is very personalised to the writer.

Three Books I Tore Through These Holidays

I had these books in my mental "must read" list for weeks and over the majority of the holidays I actually didn't do all the much reading. However, when I realised I only had a few days left my brain went into some kind of panic and I managed to make my way through all three. I can be a tough critic against YA adult books, even though they are some of my favourite, largely because being in the head of a younger teenager (which I sadly am not, anymore) can be frustrating if they're acting immaturely - which I know I was when I was sixteen as well. I did enjoy all of these books though, and would recommend them to fans of the YA genre. I didn't want to make this post too long, so if you want a synopsis of the story click through the links in the titles.

Eleanor & Park - Rainbow Rowell
This book had me torn. On the brink of being a little too “young” for where I’m at, but still a sweet and interesting story. I found myself growing annoyed at the things the two main characters, Eleanor and Park, did and said. Usually I can step out of my bubble and relate back from a sixteen years olds perspective, something kind of necessary for a YA fan, but for some reason I just couldn’t with this. This is no fault to Rowell, as she definitely captured the “first love” and sixteen year old persona in an accurate way, but I just didn’t find me clicking with the characters in a meaningful way.

I am confused because I have seen people both younger and older than me rave about this book and how it reminded them of falling in love for the first time. In many ways it did, but I also found the progression of their relationship to be slow and a little boring at times. I loved that Rowell captured the "oh my god what if I marry them?" thoughts that have definitely gone through my head at different times in my life. The largest point of intrigue for me, however, was Eleanor’s home life, the things that happened and how she dealt with them.

I wouldn't say that I don't recommend this book as I did enjoy it while I was reading it, I am mainly disappointed in myself for not clicking with it the way I can blatantly see other people would. I really wanted obsessed, head over heels, fault in our stars level love. But it really wasn’t it for me. Maybe my expectations are too high after seeing John Green’s sixteen year olds act as I would at twenty? Maybe I should stop trying to find the next TFIOS to fill the void in my heart.

We Were Liars - E. Lockhart
I thought this was going to be a typical "elite rich kids" novel when I started reading it, much like "Gossip Girl" or "Private", which is not a bad thing as I love both of those series. However, it both was and wasn't. There are the issues of class, money and hierarchy but they are by no means portrayed glamourously. There were so many issues within the family that you were not for one second jealous of what they had because it was obvious that the money is what caused them.

This plot had a twist like no other I've experienced. You knew it was coming, and it seemed to be heading in one direction, but it did a complete 360 and left you shocked. I actually found myself crying nearing the end, which was a feat considering that only happens when I'm deeply attached to the characters.

This story is about a group of teens who return to an island owned by their wealthy grandfather, an accident and the main character, Cadence, trying to piece her memories together to figure out what actually happened. The book is written in a poetic style with lots of stark, chilling imagery which added another element entirely to this story. I really loved the way this panned out, and I would highly recommend it to anyone who likes the YA genre.

Fangirl - Rainbow Rowell
This caught my eye as I'm a sucker for any books dealing with technology or using technology as a conveyer of said story. I find them not only interesting, especially when the internet is cast in a positive light and not the downfall of mankind. This book deals with fan fiction largely and portrays it in a positive and constructive light. This is a must read for anyone who has ever engaged in a fandom through the internet, even if it wasn't fan fiction, because I guarantee you will find something in this that resonates with you.

The main character, Cath, is quite judgemental of things outside her comfort zone (drinking, makeup, etc) and while this does fit her character, it did get a little tiresome at times. I didn't want her to change completely and become a party girl, but I would have liked to see some growth in a (slightly) more social progression.

I overall enjoyed the story and thought it was a fun read so I would definitely recommend it to anyone who finds the concept interesting.

Have you read any of these books and what were your thoughts? What are your recommendations?

The Review: Topshop Cream Blush

Topshop's makeup has always intrigued me. Because it comes from a clothing store, from previous experience, I didn't expect very much. However, the quality, packaging and reviews said the complete opposite. I am always looking to extend my blush colour range since I tend to gravitate towards the same shades, so I picked up the colour "flushed" which is a hot pink and definitely out of my comfort zone of paler, sheerer shades.

At first it was daunting, but as you can see in the swatch it definitely sheers out into a much more wearable colour and can be sheered out even more if you really want a natural look. My issue with cream blushes is usually the prospect of blendability. It seems so scary to put this "wet" product on your cheeks incase it doesn't blend and you're stuck with a bright, pigmented splotch on your cheek. The Topshop cream blushes blend out like a dream, I couldn't even believe it, and they've definitely made me keen to try other formulations.

The longevity is great and it really, really lasts on the cheeks. My favourite part about this blush is that it's matte. I've said it once and I'll say it again, I love the matte look and avoid shimmer most places except my eyes. For some reason I just can't get used to a "glow" on my face. These are definitely a must-have from the Topshop collection.

What are your favourite Topshop products? What would you recommend for me to try next?

Because of the Hype: Lip Products

Untitled #25

As a reader of blogs, I'm sure that you can relate to the title of this post. Sometimes a crazy urge to buy a product comes over us without any knowledge of it besides the fact that so-and-so talked about it and loved it. This is my little collection of products that I'm most likely not going to be able to resist because of the rave-reviews and people I fangirl over talking about them.

1. Maybelline Colour Elixirs
When it comes to these one name comes to mind: Estée. I am not even a gloss person, and after swatching these in store they are most definitely glossy, but something about the way she spoke about the Colour Elixir's has convinced me I will love them regardless of logic. SOS! A definite "bloggers made me do it" moment in the making.

2. L'Oréal Colour Riche Extraordinaire Lip Colours
Once again, an ultra glossy formulation that for some reason I think I will love (even though I probably won't - sob!). Everything about these is beautiful from the packaging to the colours and they are definitely something I would love to try regardless. They seem as though they'd be in the same arena as the Colour Elixirs, so I'll definitely be trying those out first!

3. Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet
I have almost bought a very particular colour from this collection multiple times, but after gushing over the swatch I promptly realise that it is out of stock! It's been a source of heartbreak for the past few weeks now, and this wouldn't be on my list if it wasn't so elusive (it would be in my makeup bag!). The colour I am talking about is 07-Nude-Is. It is the most stunning mauvey-pink toned colour I have ever seen and I need it in my life. Aside from how perfect the colour is, when I swatched it on my hand it took a shower and makeup remover to get off - amazing!

4. Maybelline Colour Sensational Stripped Nudes
I saw Lisa Eldridge use one of these on then gift to Alexa Chung. Enough said. Plus, the fact that I'm terrified of very flesh-toned looking nudes and there are so many in this collection I'm bound to find my perfect shade. Maybelline is one of my favourite drug-store brands and I've yet to be disappointed.

5. Revlon ColourBurst Lacquer Balms
I've tried the original and the matte formulations and adore them both, but for some reason I've stayed away from the lacquer balms. Lately I've seen these on a few people and have loved the look of them, I just didn't see them to be as long wearing at the matte formulation which is probably why I avoided them. I really, really want to give these ago, especially the bright pinks!

These are my potential and highly probable blogger-induced splurges of the moment, what are yours? Have you tried any of these and do you think they are worth the hype?

The Review: Face of Australia Translucent Loose Powder

If you're a fan of Australian beauty bloggers, you've probably heard of the Face of Australia translucent loose powder before. If not, it's much loved (especially by Lauren Curtis) and really tricky to get your hands on outside of Australia, but it's worth mentioning for those of you who can get your hands on it!

I was looking for a good setting powder and when Lauren mentioned this I bought it the next time I was in Priceline. It's around the $10 mark and you get an insane amount of product - I've had mine for a year and it's still 90% full. A lot of people have an issue with loose powders, and I did to, but this one is worth the fuss.

The first thing that amazes me most about this powder is that when you think you are applying way too much and are going to look cakey, you don't. The powder is so fine and seems to just absorb into whatever base you've applied and become one with it instead of sitting as a noticeable layer on top. Secondly, you never look flat or "dry" if you apply a reasonable amount. Your natural skin texture seems to come through enough to stop you needing to put back in that shine with highlighter.

I wish this product was available to everyone because it's truly amazing. What is your favourite setting powder and have you tried the FoA one?

The Review: Benefit's 'Watts Up' Highlighter

It needs to be said first and foremost that I'm by no stretch a highlighter girl. To be perfectly honest, this is the first actual highlighter I've ever owned that's sole purpose is to highlight. I've played with shadows that give similar effects before, but I've never really enjoyed the glittery look on my skin. This product has been sitting in my collection since Christmas time when I received it in a Benefit gift pack. I finally decided to bite the bullet and give it ago because it's not a cheap product by any means and was literally collecting dust in my collection.

Benefit's "Watts Up!" highlighter is a cream to powder finish which I personally love. This texture confused me at first because I hadn't come across anything like it before, but I came to really enjoy how easy it was to apply in the stick format and how easy it was to blend as it became more powdery. The colour is warm, golden and stunning to look at especially in the sunlight. I use a minuscule amount in the typical highlighting areas and blend it out to keep it subtle. However, you can use as much or as little as you want and achieve any level of highlight you're going for from strong to barely-there which makes it an amazing all-rounder.

I'm a sucker for packaging and with 'Watts Up!' it really needs to be mentioned. I love the soft lavender paired with the metallic finish and the everything from the shape to the little lightbulb details makes me happy! The blender on the end is definitely useable, but it really does sheer out the product which is something to keep in mind if you're looking for a bolder look. Overall, I definitely think this is a must-try for highlighter lovers based alone on how stunning the colour is!

Have you tried this and what is your application method? I'm still a little unsure!
