The Perfect Cateye

When I'm wearing a cat eye I always get asked how I achieved it or how I got the lines so neat. Besides from the fact that I'm a perfectionist and don't wear winged liner unless I know I have the time to get it looking crisp and even, my tools are a big, big help in getting the look I'm after. After trying a lot of liners I've found products that I really love and have my technique down pat.

The most important part is an amazing liner. Everyone has their preferences, and while I've been trying to get into gel lately, nothing can beat liquid pen liners for me. My favourite is the Maybelline Master Precise liner. The nib is super fine and you can get any width of line you so desire! The liner is very, very dark and goes on opaque with one coat. The best part of all is how cheap it is - I don't think I'd ever have to buy a high-end liner with this in my stash.

Making mistakes is inevitable. While one day you might get perfect liner in one go and be out the door, other days you're smudging, making lines to thick and going in the complete wrong direction. For those days, my tiny bottle of Simple eye make-up remover paired with cotton buds is my secret weapon. As an overall eye-makeup remover I'm not sold, but just to neaten up those lines it's a dream. You can really shape the liner into the look you desire using this method, even if you think you've ruined it completely!

Finally is the step that really pulls the whole look together. If you look closely after completing the lid part of the liner you'll notice a space around where the lash line and tight line meet that hasn't been coated in liner. If you don't like tight lining, don't worry, this line is relatively undetectable especially if you have lots of thick lashes to distract from it. However, if you do want that pesky space filled, tight line with any liner of your choice. Instantly your liner looks darker and your lashes fuller! My favourite for this trick is the Rimmel Scandal Eyes pencil as it's super smooth on such a delicate area and doesn't tend to move around.

I've been sick the past day or two so I've been spending a lot of my time moping around and doing things that make me happy in an attempt to cheer myself up. I've been reading a lot (more on that soon) and scrolling through all of my social media non-stop trying to keep myself occupied until I get better. I've finally gotten most of the boring admin-esq tasks that I've been putting off all year completed, and hopefully by the end of my uni-break I'll be up to speed and ready to focus solely on my work.

At the start of next month I am leaving the city and heading into the countryside for a few days, which should be a nice break, but my mode of transportation is coach which always stresses me out and leaves me in a bad mood. It's never quiet and I'm always sitting next to someone who is bored and wants to watch on with whatever I'm doing to try and occupy myself. I think I'm going to be casting out my strongest "I have my headphones on, do not disturb" vibes.

It feels as though half of my holidays have already gone, and most of this post has already gone without casting any reference to the pictures I've selected this time around! I've really been building my wardrobe around certain looks and I'm really starting to fall in love with my outfits which is something I struggled with in the past. I think I have well and truly found my "style" where as back in high school I went from wanting to dress very feminine to wanting to dress like a boy in the same day which left me resenting half of my wardrobe at times!

Coffee is there, as always. I put myself on a coffee ban at the tail end of last year and I was actually feeling very energetic without it. However, one fateful day in class I needed a pick-me-up and opted for coffee which got me back to my caffeine addiction! I find myself feeling very blah without it these days and I know I should get off it, but it was so hard the first time! I don't know how to stay strong!

This was quite the ramble, so I think I'll tie things up here with a question (or three): Are you a coffee addict with genuine withdrawal symptoms when you don't get your fix? Does this worry you as much as it worries me? Have you quit coffee and can remind me why life rules without it?

Life Lately #1

I finished my exams and ever since have been constantly on the go, running piled up errands, and catching up with friends I've been waiting to see all semester - hence the lack of posts. When I have had a spare moment to myself, I've been catching up on my TV shows I missed while I was busy with school. Kardashians, as always, was at the very top of my priority list!

Unfortunately, I still have a few more jobs to get done before I can truly settle down, enjoy my break and with that produce the content that's been lacking lately. I have lots of tasks that I have put off this long and know I will put off even longer if I don't get them done now! So hopefully by the end of the week I'll have some content I'm proud of up on here. That's all for now, I just wanted to check in!

Who else is on break from school or university at the moment and what are your plans?

Study Essentials

Studying isn't fun, which is something I think we can all agree on. There are definitely ways to make it more exciting, but I don't think I will ever enjoy trying to cram all that work into just a week or two. I've gotten my studying essentials down to a tee, even if my study skills aren't so refined - you can't win them all!

Coffee is first and foremost, if you're a coffee person. Some teas offer a boost of caffeine too, but I personally love the taste of coffee and it's my first choice when I need a pick me up. I like to wake up in the morning and have a coffee before I even think about working, let it do it's thing and sometimes it's enough. Other times, I sip away while I work, but the first of the day is always the best!

When it comes to stationary you need to go hard or go home, in my eyes. I love buying cute notebooks, pens, sticky notes - you name it. Kate Spade's offerings are magical, but Typo and Target have amazing pieces too that will making your work look adorable.

Snacks are key for me, next to coffee. Chocolate is my go to study snack because I'm a chocoholic and it just makes me happy. If you want to opt for something more healthy, feel free. I'd recommend something you can nibble on so you can eat consistently through working without feeling guilty.

Finally, a little random but oh so important to me, bed socks! If it's hot, I'll opt out of these, but they just give me such a warm feeling of contentment. They keep me warm and calm while I'm realising how much work I still have to go.

What are your must haves when the study period comes around?

My Collection #3: Sigma Brushes

The first year of me doing my makeup was a ton of sponge tip applicators, fingers and one very average brush that was used for all of my powder products. These were the dark ages of my makeup life and I soon found myself searching for something more - dramatic huh? It wasn't something I wanted to splurge on, but I did want good quality, so I decided that Sigma's Mr Bunny Travel Kit was a good place to start and get a feel for what Sigma as a brand has to offer.

For $75 you receive seven brushes and one of Sigma's classic travel cases. One thing to note is that these brushes are "travel sized" but I personally prefer shorter handles and haven't noticed substantial brush head sizing difference except when it comes to the powder and contour brush, which again, doesn't bother me but is definitely something to consider.

The face brushes included are the F30 Large Powder, F40 Large Angled Contour and F60 Foundation. My favourite of these is the powder brush as it distributes just the right amount of product on the face and buffs it in seamlessly, plus, it's super soft and feels great on the skin. The angled brush is the perfect size for contouring, but is a little on the small side when it comes to blush. I don't find myself reaching for the foundation brush, but this is solely because I hate all paddle brushes. It could be the best paddle brush in the world and I still probably wouldn't take to it.

The eye brushes are my favourite part of this collection and are everything you need to make a gorgeous look. These are the  E30 Pencil, E40 Tapered Blending, E55 Eye Shading and the E65 Small Angle. My favourite is the blending brush, it really makes a huge difference to your eye looks and is the one brush you need if you want your eyeshadow to look flawless. Another notable brush is the small angle which I use every single day for my brows and it does an amazing job! The pencil and shader are great too, but there's not much to say on them except that they do their job.

The brushes in this kit were perfectly selected and truly cover all the bases, especially on a travel front which is what it's designed for. I really don't find myself reaching for anything out of this kit except for my EcoTools blush brush and my Real Techniques multitasker for my base. This is a great kit for beginners or someone wanting a taste of the brand without committing to the full sets.

Another collection of images I've been loving lately. I keep trying to justify these posts because they do feel a little slack at times, but I've been getting such lovely comments as a response to them. As you can see, I've definitely had travel on my mind again when it comes to what images stand out to me. I don't want to say too much on this right now because I hate talking about things until they're one hundred percent booked, paid for and at the point of no return - I feel like I'm jinxing it otherwise.

I've also been finding myself looking at a lot of tattoo inspiration blogs as well. They are a thing I've always wanted but an idea I love hasn't come to me yet. My master plan was always to get one as soon as I was able to, but two years have passed and I still don't have one! It's something I'm constantly thinking about, I feel like I need a major event to happen in my life to justify it, which is silly! A lot of people have a lot of different opinions when it comes to tattoos and I for one love them. The crystal one featured above is so stunning, I've seen a lot of gorgeous amethyst toned watercolour style tattoos and have loved every one of them. For me, I'd love a smaller, subtler piece but I love admiring them all the same.

As always, there's a member of the Kardashian/Jenner family thrown in the mix! I can't help my obsession, they're all so gorgeous and the show gives me life. Kendall looks amazing in this photoshoot she did recently, and has been killing it with her outfit choices for her and Kylie's book tour this month!

Back off to studying I go, I hope those of you in the same boat are coping. My exams are so drawn out compared to my friends, they finish at the end of the week while I still have another full week after that to go.

The Futuristic Trend: Clear Clutch

Exam week starts this coming Monday, so as you can imagine I've been spending most of my days studying and drinking cups and cups of coffee. I thought I'd drop in quickly before bed to write a post on a trend you will know I'm loving if you're a reader of my blog - the futuristic trend. This encompasses everything clear, holographic or that just has that super modern edge to it. I just find pieces in this genre very unique, simple, and most of all, eye-catching.

My favourite piece I own that fits into this trend is my clear clutch. These have been around for awhile, but my love for them has stayed strong. It took me a long time to find a design  I was happy with and when I did I bought it instantly! This one comes with a long golden chain so I can wear it as a shoulder bag if I want, but I find myself leaning more towards rocking it as a clutch because it's so small and light.

A lot of people are daunted by the idea of onlookers being able to see every little thing you're carrying around, and I was too, but this particular design came with a black pouch that slips inside and fits anything you wouldn't want others being able to scope out such as your ID, money and phone. With this security measure in place you're free to display your cuter items such as your sunglasses and lipstick, like I have, and really make the clutch personalised.

Are you loving the futuristic trend as much as me?

Neglected Products

Last week I got one of those compulsions that force you to sort through your beauty stash and re assess the products you've taken out of the everyday rotation. My makeup collection isn't huge, so often if things are thrown out of the exclusive makeup bag club it's because I don't like them or because I've found something better to replace it. This is a tiny little collection of the products that didn't fit the aforementioned categories and I'd stopped using for reasons that now seem silly to me. When you get into a makeup "rut" and you don't want to go out and buy new products, a rummage through your old stuff can leave you with some gems and make your look feel fresh!

1. Garnier Miracle Skin Perfecter
This was my very first makeup product when at the ripe old age of eighteen I decided it was time to try out this makeup stuff. I don't think I really appreciated how good this product was at the time because I was so new to it all and hadn't tried anything to compare it to. This is an amazing BB cream and one of my favourite bases. It blends into the skin to the point that it's questionable as to whether it's actually there, but once you see how bright and even your complexion is you know it's doing it's job! They make an oil-free formula now, which I need to pick up, but with this particular one you definitely need some powder as it's very, very dewy and just gets even more so during the day.

2. Maybelline Instant Age Rewind: Dark Circle Eraser
I bought this back when it first came out because I was quite curious about the packaging and anything that claims to help dark circles will find its way into my collection at some point. I loved this up until I got my MAC concealers (moisture cover and pro longwear), which are still unbeatable, but the current hype of this product made me try it again to remember what it was like. I love it even more than I used to as it blends in much easier than my pro longwear, which is perfect for days that I don't want to spend much time on my makeup but want something under my eyes. As for it's correcting properties, I'm with those who say they can't see a difference, but as a standalone concealer this is definitely worth the hype.

3. Maybelline Eye Studio Gel Liner
I have been a pen liquid liner girl since the start. I love nothing more than clean, clear lines when it comes to my eyes and smudgy pencils just weren't cutting it for me. My friend raved about this product, so when I saw it on sale I thought "why not" and added it to my basket. Because I was so used to how simple liner pens are, I found this annoying to use and definitely gave up before I got any real technique down. However, my pens dry up so quickly because I use them so often and buying a new one every month or two is adding up, so I decided to give gel a try because people's pots seem to last forever.
I still need to build up an application technique, but the amount of product you use is incredible. I only scrape the surface of the pot super lightly and have enough liner for the majority of my eye. This is something you have to build up once you have your initial shape down, but that's no issue if you have some time. I still opt for my liquid pen when I'm in a rush, though.

What are some old products you've found in your collection and ended up falling in love with all over again?

Dior Addict Lip Polish

I used to think the girls at school applying their lipgloss in class looked so chic and grown up, but when it came to me finally trying it I realised that there is nothing chic about how sticky and gloopy they can feel on the lips. I honestly felt cheated, so I had to settle for the glamourous image of applying lipstick. I am by no stretch a lipgloss girl, but this was a gift, so I felt that I had to give it a fair chance especially because I wanted to love it so much - it's Dior!

I can't say that I love this, it still has that feeling that all glosses have regardless of their formulation, but I like it a lot more than other glosses I have tried. I do, however, love the look of it even if the feeling still bothers me a little. I really am trying to use this more, especially since the shade is the perfect topper to most pink lipsticks whether you want a pick-me-up for a nude or to tone down a bright. It is something that I think will take a little more time, but I'm hoping to get to the point where it doesn't bother me at all anymore.

How do you feel about glosses? Love, hate? Give me some tips!
